There is a place which energizes me yet irritates me at times, it is my job at Jimmy's Food and Drink. I thoroughly enjoy working there for the most part. I'm a waitress, so, the tips are a plus to my financial status. However, there are some rough days serving at Jimmy's as well.
I really enjoy working at Jimmy's because it is a faced paced environment. The time seems to literaly fly by while I'm working. The people we serve are usually always up for a good time and seem even more enjoyable when happy hour is in session. My co-workers are all in there twenties, we enjoy chatting about our lives, and all the drama one has during their twenties. Some of these issues are: boyfriend/girlfriend problems, finacial issues, and college experiences. Despite the long hours, once I leave with the extra eighty dollars in tips, I forget about all the hard work.
However, there are nights when I have had my full of working at Jimmy's Food and Drink. For example, Sunday night, there were a ton of drunk people in the bar. They had been served far too much and needed to be cut off at that point. In particular, there was a gentelman who had no idea where the bathroom was, and thought our kitchen door was the bathroom. Two of us ran over to him and tried to show him the way, but it was too late; he urinated on the way. It is nights like these when I feel like leaving. I'm tired, have too much homework, and then have to worry about drunk people. ISH!
Overall, I do enjoy working at Jimmy's. For the most part everything goes as planned, and we go about our normal routine of playing the role as a happy server, but there are some rough patches just as any job is going to have. I don't plan on quitting. I'm sure I will have another rough day at Jimmy's, but there will be many memorable ones as well. Maybe our Halloween costume party will be one of them? |

I plan on writing my expository essay on the influence of media on teen girls. Today, there are many TV shows that place emphasis on standards for young teens. Even though many teens have strong feelings and are able to stand up for themselves yet, they still follow these underlying rules of how they should be. How are teens influenced by the media?
For example, many young women watch the reality tv show called, My Super Sweet 16. This show is about young teens who come from rich families and have lavish birthday parties that cost in the ranges of 100,000 to upwards of 200,000 dollars. The teens expect a huge party which includes hundreds of guests and the most expensive bands and food. With all these expensive items, the also expect to receive a very expensive gift. One young girl was given a brand new Range Rover from her parents. Keep in mind, this girl is only 16 years old. The majority of American citizens cannot afford to give their children a party as such, but it does boost up the want for lavish and expensive gifts even if they know their parents cannot afford a party as the teens have in My Super Sweet 16. An exepflication of this would be a friend of my family, their daughter watched the show and she told her parents that she wanted a thousand dollars worth of gifts for her upcoming 16th birthday. Of course her parents would never agree to this, but they wondered why she would think that expecting gifts worth over a thousand dollars was okay. It seems as though the media isn't selling the actually party itself, but the importance of being rich and "having it all". Is having it all really that important? What are we feeding our children? Another example, the TV show known as Laguna Beach. This show is based in California and is made up of a bunch of high school teens along with all of their drama. A typical episode is based on who is the most pretty among the girls, who is dating which guy, who stole a boyfriend or a girlfriend. All the teens on the show seem to give off a "I'm better then you attitude." We all know that having an attitude as such is not right, but for some reason many love the show. I know a few girls who love watching the show and they seem to mimick the show through their actions. I wonder if they do this intentionaly or it is done subconciously. Does the media reflect teens, or do teens reflect the media? |

Today, I had the chance to enjoy my lunch in the cafeteria at the College of Saint Catherine.
The cafeteria is a large room with many seats to occupy all the female students that attend the college. You know you have entered the cafeteria when the smell of delicious food streams into your nose. Women around the ages of 18 to 30 spent their time here eating, talking with fellow class mates, finishing up last minute homework assignments, or reading a magazine. Most women were wearing casual apperal with their book bags in tow. Their shiny cream food trays were filled with sandwiches, burgers, salads and many other items to fuel their bodies during their busy scheduals. Many women seemed to be talking about their homework, classes, professors, and personal situations one may have in their life. The windows all along one side of the cafeteria allow for natural sunlight to beam in. The landscaping outside allows for a great view while eating and a calm, but yet, busy place to finish last minute homework. Overall, this was a friendly place which showed evidence of camaraderie and kindness. It was generally a peaceful place to be. |

I would be on the island of Tortola in the B.V.I. I would be on a beach named, Long Beach. I would be laying on a comfortable lounge chair on the white sandy beach.
I would have my favorite black swim suit; it takes ten pounds off. My exposed skin would be slathered with dark tanning oil; my skin smelling like fresh coconut, yum. I would see the light blue water lapping up onto the beach and the sound along with the warm air would calm me immediately. The seagulls would be flying over waiting to catch their dinner, a fish that didn't survive. The sound of steal drums would echo across the beach and put a smile on my face while I dance inside my head.
The cup holder on the lounge chair would be holding a cold strawberry margarita; a mini-umbrella leaning out the glass. The giant green palms behind me guard me from all the hustle and bustle back in the "real" world. |

Pat, sorry this is late. As I told you on Tuesday, I thought it was due Thursday.
I love both summer and fall, but I really enjoy fall. There are so many reasons why I feel the way I do. First, fall takes away the sweltering heat and brings soft cool breezes. I love to have the windows open at night while I'm sleeping, I cuddle tightly into my covers as the wind touches my face.
Fall is also the start of a new semester here at St.Kates. It felt comforting to come back to a well know place. I feel as if I have a purpose while I'm diligently working on projects and papers. Also, the landscape around the campus is so very serene and calm in contrast to the busy and fast paced students who occupy the area.
Lastly, my birthday is September 12th. Who doesn't love their birthday month? Okay, when I'm 70 I may have a different view but for now I like it! Birthday cake just tastes so good. I can tast the butter cream frosting sliding down my throat and finishing with huge glass of skim milk.Yum!
So, these are just a few reasons why I enjoy fall so much. |
